These guidelines are meant to be clear, practical, and helpful as you consider donating.

How Your Donation Supports GSO Thrive

When you donate to the thrift store, you are doing more than donating items:

• You help ensure staff time and resources are used efficiently

General Condition Standards

We gratefully accept items that are:

• Clean and ready for immediate resale
• Free of strong odors, mold, or mildew
• Complete and functional, with all parts included

A helpful guideline when deciding what to donate is:

Clothing & Shoes

We welcome everyday and specialty clothing that meets the following standards:

• Clean and freshly laundered
• No stains, holes, tears, or excessive wear
• Working zippers, buttons, and closures
• Shoes with intact soles and wearable condition

Furniture

Furniture donations require significant time and space to process, so condition is especially important. We accept furniture that is:

• Structurally sound and sturdy
• Complete, with all original parts
• Upholstery free from rips, stains, pet damage, or signs of bed bugs
• Free of strong odors or water damage

Furniture that requires repair, refinishing, or extensive cleaning cannot be accepted.

Household & Kitchen Items

Household and kitchen items must be:

• Thoroughly cleaned
• Free of rust, grease buildup, or food residue
• Free of cracks, chips, or melted plastic
• Complete, including lids and attachments

We especially appreciate quality cookware, small appliances in working condition, and practical household items.

Electronics

To ensure safety and resale value:

• Electronics must be in working condition
• Computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones should be reasonably current
• Flat-screen TVs only

We are unable to accept:

• CRT monitors or tube TVs
• VCRs, projection TVs, or outdated electronics
• Damaged or unsafe electrical items

Items We Cannot Accept

For safety, legal, or operational reasons, we are unable to accept:

• Recalled items
• Car seats or expired safety equipment
• Cribs or children's items that no longer meet safety standards
• Firearms, ammunition, or weapons
• Medications
• Chemicals, paint, or flammable materials
• Items with mold, heavy dirt, pests, or strong odors

Donation Pickup Availability

In certain situations, donation pickup may be available for larger items or bulk donations.

To help us plan safely and responsibly:

• Pickup requests must be scheduled with at least 48 hours' notice
• Donation pickups are limited to locations within 10 miles of the thrift store

These limits allow us to coordinate staff, vehicles, and time while continuing to prioritize the GSO Thrive mission.
